As Wimbledon vastly approaches and we dust off our tennis rackets and gorge ourselves on strawberries and cream Sky TV have come up with a brilliant idea to show the 2004 romantic comedy ‘Wimbledon’ starring Kirsten Dunst and Paul Bettany. Getting us all in the spirit for the summer sport this is a great one to look out for on Satellite TV this week (Sky Movies 8)

Peter Colt (Paul Bettany) is an under achieving tennis player who has lost the passion and drive that made him so successful at playing tennis in the first place. His rank has dropped right down to 119th in the world and he is in the process of seriously considering announcing his retirement from the world of tennis.
Before he leaves however, he wants one more shot at the Wimbledon championship. All his previous attempts have gone completely unnoticed and this year he is determined to make an impression. It is only when Colt meets the beautiful and successful player Lizzie Bradbury (Kirsten Dunst) that his passion for tennis is reignited along with a passion much deeper for his fellow tennis player as they engage in a sizzling off court relationship. Sam Neil plays Lizzie’s over protective Father who does not welcome the distraction that Peter Colt seems to be having on his daughters sporting abilities, bringing some humour and fun scenes between the two guys as they both struggle to do what’s best for Lizzie and for her career.

This is a really good British movie, it has elements of romance, it has its comedic moments mainly brought to us by the utterly brilliant Paul Bettany who you may have seen recently playing a very different kind of role as the troubled monk Silas from ‘The DaVinci Code’

The film has it’s predictable moments, but if you are a fan of tennis or sport in general, and enjoy romantic comedies then this film completely fits the bill and provides a highly entertaining 98mins of running time. Tune in and watch, and get your strawberries and cream at the ready to really get you in the spirit!
