Satellite TV Times

Did You Know? You can take your PocketDISH over to your friend’s house and hook it up to her TV and watch programming that you transferred from your DVR to your PocketDISH. This means even if your friend doesn’t have satellite service, you can share satellite programming with her.

Congratulations! You’ve decided to cut through the nonsense and set up your own satellite. Chances are, you haven’t done this before or if you have, it was a long, long time ago. Before you get started, take a minute to check out our seven helpful hints and get a sense of the big picture (no pun intended!) before you begin.

1. First things first – How big does your satellite need to be? There are a variety of sizes and your local service will help you figure out which one is for you. If you need help, ask about the footprint of the satellite or the coverage.

2. Try and find out in advance which direction you need to face your satellite dish. For example, a motorized dish should be facing south for the best results. This allows you time to pick out an appropriate site and clear the area in preparation for its arrival.

3. Your next decision involves which do it yourself satellite TV set up kit you will use. This is usually indicated in part by the dish, but also by the other requirements for your area and your service, the LNB, and the mounting method you are using.

4. Make sure that the direction which your satellite is facing is not blocked by anything. If any of these are in your way, you must adjust the inclination and line of sight of your dish away from these obstructions. There are meters available in some kits to help you determine the proper degree angle.

5. Read the instructions before you begin. The directives for installing fixed satellite dishes vary significantly from the directives for installing a motorized satellite dish. If you have any questions about the instructions, clear them up before you begin. You don’t want to get stuck half way and have to undo what you’ve done.

6. If you are upgrading your satellite dish or exchanging it for a new one, dispose of the original properly. Check for recycling programs in your city or area.

7. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Instructions are help, yes? So asking someone to clarify the instructions bears no shame. Better to ask than to not get your satellite dish installed!
